The Knitting War

~celebrating the art of prank crafting~

the siege begins

It started with a pair of shorts my sister Jessie knit for our brother for his birthday. Or was it the too-small baby pink dog sweater she made for my dog?  The early days of the war are fuzzy now, but Jessie had thrown down the gauntlet. Knitting ridiculous things for each other purely for the reactions they inspired became an ongoing challenge. The battle has been raging for six years now, albeit very slowly…

We are devoting this blog to both The Knitting War— so that the world may know of our fight, and witness firsthand the terrible results— and the art of the prank craft.  Projects we stumble on that seem worthy of this art will be shared here.  And if you’ve never experienced the joy of prank crafting, isn’t it time?  Somewhere out there is an American flag latch-hook rug waiting for you to painstakingly make and send to your best friend without a word of explanation.  Right now there is a hideous paint-by-number collecting dust on a clearance shelf, waiting for you to spend hours on, snickering at the thought of your brother’s reaction when he opens his Christmas present.  Consider the yellow mermaid tail you might spend the equivalent of a work week knitting, motivated only by the look of shock on your sister’s face when she unwrapped it.

The Knitting War.  This is no place for cowards.
